Pro voluptate volamus!
Microlighting is not only about flying; it encompasses a buzzing social side. If you become a student at Otherton you automatically become a member of Staffordshire Aero Club who are a friendly and welcoming bunch of people who share a love of flying. As a member you will receive the monthly newsletter by post or email which will keep you up to date with forthcoming fly ins, competitions and social activities.
Our local club meeting is held on the first Thursday of every month at The Hayling Dene Centre, Cannock Road, Penkridge. The meetings are open to all members and their partners.
Our club motto is Pro Voluptate Volamus which translates as we fly for fun, and thats what we do!
The school is BMAA/CAA registered and has instructors for both flex-wing and fixed-wing microlight tuition.
The club house is currently being refurbished, but will boast not only tea and coffee making facilities but a newly furnished lounge and viewing area for visitors. There will be a shop stocking the latest BlueSkyBlue microlight clothing and accessories making it the airfield with everything under one roof!
Rob Reynolds - Flex-wing
Rob is an infectious character who has a real passion for the sport and he injects that excitement into all the students he teaches. Rob is a very approachable lad who will give you the support you need throughout your time with the school and if anyone is up for a fly out when youve passed then its Rob!
Rob flies both fixed and flex-wing microlights and recently flew to France and back in a Sky Ranger for lunch! What a rush that was for him and his co-pilot Ian Shaw. It just shows you what is achievable when you get the bug for flying.
Mick Smith - Fixed-wing
Mick has been teaching for many years and ever since his first flight in a microlight he has never looked back! He has a wonderfully patient, calm nature that puts all of his students at ease.
Mick currently teaches on an AX-3 and a Eurostar.
Gordon Faulkner - Examiner/Permits
Gordon, what can we say? Hes a CAA approved examiner, senior inspector and check pilot, so be nice to him! Gordons been flying since 1969 and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to flying and aircraft engineering so feel free to ask him any technical questions you might have (the harder the better - weve got to keep his brain active at his age!)
