Staffordshire Microlights offers a full spectrum of flying courses from absolute beginner to fully licensed pilots wanting a refresher course.

CAA approved courses available:

1) Microlight NPPL

2) RT (Radio Telephony)

3) Fixed-wing to flex-wing conversion

4) Flex-wing to fixed-wing conversion

To obtain your NPPL you will require at least 25 hours total flying time. Of these 25 hours, 10 must be solo hours either in the school aircraft or a student’s own aircraft. Most pilots without prior flying experience take around 30 to 40 hours to complete the course.

Although you can train at any age, you have to be at least 17 years old before being allowed to fly solo. Students will be required to complete 2 solo cross country flights and a General Skills Test. They will be expected to pass “ground school” exams in Human Performance and Limitations, Microlight Air Law, Meteorology, Navigation and Aircraft Technical.  These may sound daunting but all are multiple choice exams and students are given sufficient training for most to pass these first time.  Students will also be tested orally as part of the General Skills Test. You must be in possession of a valid medical certificate. If a student already has a current PPL (A) they will need to complete only a type conversion test.
